Each Labor Day weekend, Local 347 members hit the streets to "Fill the Boot" and help the Muscular Dystrophy Association in a big way. Bluefield Firefighters are very proud to be first in the state in monies collected for the MDA Boot Drive year after year. It is a very satisfying moment to appear on the WVVA Telethon and present the big total each year.
Participating in the MDA Boot Drive to help "Jerry's Kids" is a long-standing tradition with Local 347, as it is with the International Association, as well. Firefighters nationwide are the biggest benefactors to the Drive and are showcased each year on the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon.
Several activities, including bowl-a-thons, hot dog sales and others are held prior to the Labor Day weekend to arouse public interest and raise additional money.
Thanks to the efforts of firefighters everywhere and the incredible generosity of the citizens who donate, great strides have been made in fighting this most debilitating desease. See you on Labor Day weekend!
